    Question Pensacola?

My husband received a job offer for a company located in Pensacola. Has anyone lived there or have experience with the area? I will research it like crazy on the internet, but first hand info is so much better.

I'm NO help at all. I've never been to the gulf coast before. But I wanted to send good thoughts your way. I hope everything works out the way it is suppose to.

My DH is contemplating a transfer here in the next year or so and the thought of moving AGAIN . . . . well lets just say I'm trying to get used to it. Really, when we moved 2 years ago it was just 25 miles or so and it was because we wanted to not because we were getting transferred or taking a new job.

Good luck with your decision. I hope whatever happens, you find peace in it.

Thanks ladies. I worded the first message wrong. He has had a phone interview and they want him to go up for the next one. An offer has not been made. If/when he goes up, I plan to go with him so that I can see the area for myself.

Now that I know he truly has ideas about leaving his current job, I asked him to look for an area closer to my family. I don't think I want to move back to Atlanta. But Birmingham or somewhere in the Carolina's would be nice. He has seen a lot of job postings for those areas, so it is not a stretch to consider them. Maybe I should pull up a map and draw a (four hour driving time) radius so he can know where I want to be? Four hours being the most I really want to drive by myself.

    Hey girl!
Have you decided on a city?
We vacation in Pensacola and love it. We've been there the last 4 years. It's a really nice city but it seems to be spread out quite a bit. The beach is sugar white and the water is clear, most days. Because it's in the panhandle, lots of storms, hurricanes.

We are still in Melbourne (Florida). He decided not to bother pursuing this one once he got more information about the position. He's just keeping his eyes and ears open right now and waiting to see what comes up. His job here is good, he just knows he won't ever move up so he wants to eventually go somewhere where there will be at least opportunity for more in the future. Also, if our elected officials don't get their act together and come to some agreement before the sequestration then things will likely change. The company has already stated that a minimum of 1,000 jobs will be cut next year if the sequestration goes through. (Some of their contracts are government/military based.) 350 jobs will be cut immediately after the new year and the rest will go in stages throughout the year. Although my hubby's projects are not the military ones, we know cuts will be made in every department so he knows it's best to keep an eye out for other options. What a crazy time for everyone.

Ok, so Kansas is where we're considering now. (And looking forward to it.) Awesome job opportunity for my hubby, Great school system in the area, and only 2 day shipping from Utah. LOL
I love Christmas, but I want these people to get back to work so we can hear something about this!!

I apologize if you are tired of reading this kind of stuff from me. We're not talking about it with family in case it doesn't go through and the suspense is getting to me! Must. get. it. out!

So, Overland Park Kansas it is!
Danny (Hubby) gives them his official answer on Wednesday, but he is definitely interested and the offer is a good one. We spoke with the kids last night and my older son (whom I thought would take it hard) is super happy. You should see the grin on his face! My younger one (12 yo) is sad and a little nervous. If you are a praying person, please pray for him and pray that I will know how to work through this with him.
I'll be flying up with Danny on Sunday so I can actually see the town for myself. I'm so excited. And wondering if I am going to change my goals for my Stampin' Up! business. I'm glad we have leadership this week, because I will be hearing/viewing everything through the focus of considering restarting or scaling down. Good timing, I think.

Wow! I just looked on the map to see what part of Kansas that was. My parents lived in Leavenworth KS when I was a born (so I was born in KC, KS). They loved it there and have often said from a housing and lifestyle viewpoint, they would have been better off never leaving there. (They moved to Montana and then California in pursuit of career advancement for my dad). Now that was 40 years ago and I don't remember living there at all, but I bet you will love it.

My DH has stopped talking about the transfer thing for right now because of the federal budget mess. But his promotional scores are only good until summer, 2014 so we'll have to make a decision here in the next year or so if we want to promote or stay here.

We looked at moving to Overland Park about 20 years ago. It was amazing, at the time, how much more house you could get for the same money as here, BUT no land and all the houses in the developments we looked at were spitting distance from each other. That seemed really bizarre to me given how much open space there was! But we ended up staying in New England. Good luck...you will not hyperventilate....you will enjoy the adventure!

That's super exciting! My parents moved when my brother was starting high school, and he really loved the chance to start fresh and reinvent himself. Maybe that would help your younger son? Best of luck to all of you!

My 13yo sounds like your brother, my 12 yo not so much. I know he will be fine given time, he tends to just draw people in, but it will. Be tougher for him.

My hubby got last night and told me he hasn't actually decided yet. His text to me said he was interested and did I want to go visit the area next week. What he meant was that he was interested in hearing more, then asked them to hold the formal offer until Wednesday. And since it is probably "yes" he would like for me to actually go see the area. So I really won't know for a couple of more days. This man is wearing me out...

Hi Everyone! Well, the trip went great. It's a beautiful area and the job is a good one. But (long story short) the position isn't in line with what my husband wants for his career. He struggled with the decision because it is such a good opportunity and we were excited about the schools for the boys… but it's just not right for him so it wouldn't be right for the family, either.

I feel like I just got off a roller-coaster and need about a month to recover...

Wow, definitely a roller coaster ride! Hard on the boys, too, feeling the uncertainty. I'm sure everything will work out for the best, especially since you both are really researching the jobs and the areas. (((Hugs)))

I am glad that you have made a final decision! At least he realized it wasn't right before you all moved there. I am sure that a better opportunity will come along soon. In the meantime, you can enjoy not having to pack or re-start your business.
